How Hospice Care Provides a Comfort

Hospice is a specialized type of care that helps patients manage symptoms associated with terminal illnesses. These services can help your loved one address physical and emotional discomfort so they can continue their daily life during this transition.

We assume primary caregiving responsibilities and provide round-the-clock support to assist your loved one day and night. Our facilities are designed with a home-like atmosphere. Your loved one is welcome to bring personal belongings and furniture to create a sense of familiarity with their space.

Our staff can coordinate care with other specialists, counselors and religious leaders so your senior can focus solely on their comfort.

The nurses and caregivers consistently advocate for and provide exceptional care to residents."

Personalized Care Plans

Our approach to hospice care emphasizes your loved one’s quality of life instead of curative treatment. Hospice staff will discuss your loved one’s needs and routines to ensure they can support the continuum of care without disruptions that could affect emotional and physical well-being. As their loved one, you will be closely involved in helping us develop a personalized care plan.

Pain and Symptom Management

We will develop a symptom management plan based on your loved one’s condition and pain level. Our expert staff provides dosing to ease physical discomfort without causing excessive sedation and monitors your loved one to adjust relief as needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible for hospice care?

Hospice is intended for those who have a terminal illness and, generally, less than six months to live. Those conditions may include but aren’t limited to advanced cancer, end-stage kidney or lung disease, liver failure, dementia and Alzheimer’s, stroke and heart disease.

When should someone begin hospice care?

It may be time for your loved one to transition to hospice if they present the following:

  • Decline in physical or cognitive health
  • Decreased appetite or weight loss
  • Frequent hospitalizations
  • Chronic or unmanageable pain
  • Increased need for medical intervention
  • Chronic infection
  • Refusal or inability to receive treatment

What services are included in hospice?

Hospice offers a variety of physical, mental and emotional services. That includes:

  • 24/7 nursing care
  • Medical equipment and supplies
  • Pain management
  • Physician services
  • Psychological support
  • Spiritual services
  • Bereavement and caregiver support
  • Legal and financial guidance

What are the requirements for a hospice referral?

Hospice eligibility requires confirmation of your loved one’s terminal illness by two separate physicians, a prognosis of fewer than six months to live and medical documentation of their physical decline. That documentation must indicate therapeutic options haven’t improved your loved one’s condition and that they wish to stop life-prolonging treatment.

Will my loved one stop receiving medication in hospice?

Curative treatments and medications will no longer be administered. Your loved one may still take medication to treat symptoms that may cause discomfort, such as pain, nausea, anxiety, breathing issues and insomnia.

Does insurance cover hospice?

Medicare, Medicaid or private insurance can help pay for hospice, but coverage varies based on your policy. Please contact our admissions department for more information. They will help you determine your benefits and navigate insurance policies.
